Physical Activities

Lubbock's local Senior Lifestyle Centers offer activities and classes to keep community seniors physically active.

Texercise is a program supported by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability services which encourages and promotes a physically active lifestyle.

Lubbock Senior Games 2008

Senior Games 2008

Approximately 200 senior athletes from across the region will be converging in Lubbock on August 13-18, 2008, for the annual Lubbock Senior Games hosted by the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department.  Registration packets are now available at the Lubbock Senior Center, 2001 19th Street, or by calling 806-767-2710. Applicants must be 50+.  This year’s events include Basketball (Free Throws and Around the World), Bowling, Cycling (5K, 10K, 20K, 40K), Track and Field, Golf, Horseshoes, Running Road Race (5K, 10K), Swimming, Table Tennis, and Washers.  Individuals competing must be 50 years of age or older and categories are divided into five-year interval age groups.  Medals are awarded for first, second and third place finishers at the completion of each event.  The top five places in each age group for each event will qualify for the 2008 Texas Senior Games Championships being held in Temple, Texas, on September 19-28, 2008.

Partnering with Parks and Recreation in offering the Lubbock Senior Games are Meadowbrook Golf Course, Texas Tech University’s Recreation Center and the R. P. Fuller Track, Lubbock Independent School District’s Pete Ragus Aquatic Center, South Plains Area Track Officials, South Plains Bowl, Caprock Multi Sport, West Texas Running Club, and the many clubs and organizations that help provide volunteers for the games.

The Lubbock Senior Games is an open event and is sanctioned by the National Senior Games Association and the Texas Senior Games Association.  For more information, call the Lubbock Senior Center at 767-2710.
